Is that a mackerel sky?
Whatever it is, it's fabulous.

Very good! Either a mackerel sky or a buttermilk sky, I'm not sure of the difference.
I confess I;ve never heard of a buttermilk sky and I have absolutely no idea where the name "mackerel" sky came from.
Can you help?

I live with the premise that I'm never too old to learn, even if I might forget what you tell me :-)
Since buttermilk leaves a film of little clumps down the sie of the glass this kind of cloud formation reminds some of buttermilk I guess.
I had never heard the term Mackerel Sky. I checked the source of all knowledge and came up with this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altocumulus_mackerel_sky
When one has lived quite a few years and enjoys garnering a little knowledge here and there, it's surprising what information the brain retains. I just thank my lucky stars that this old brain still has the ability to dig up facts from the dim and distant recesses!!!
