Thursday Challenge - Old

This week's theme is "old".  Here are some reed baskets from Woolaroc Museum and Wildlife Park west of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  I don't know the precise date of origin but it is pre-Columbian (as in before 1492) and that is about as old as it gets here in Oklahoma.  Woolaroc is a great place to visit if you like such things.  Read all about it HERE.

Ruby Tuesday - Jeep Wrangler Sahara

The litttle Jeep made a good impression on us during and after WW2; kind of like the Hummer did after Desert Storm.  Unlike the Hummer they actually served a purpose.  Nowadays I think they struggle.  They have to look rugged on the outside and luxurious on the inside, and they have to compete with a host of SUV's that do these things very well.  I have never owned one but those that do seem to like them.  There is a sort of macho image about a Jeep that endures.

Skywatch Friday - Buttermilk Sky

I think that's what you call this kind of sky.  It is getting cool at night and the leaves will be changing color soon.  I like living where the seasons change.

Wednesday Doors - Asian Influence

Our daughter Jennifer and her family have rented a new house.  Although it was built in the early 1950s it is new to them and very spacious with an asian influence.  It is of an interesting design with lots of glass and open areas and is roomy enough for big family dinners.  The move is a short one so Molly and Will can still attend Edison school.  I think we are all going to enjoy it.

Ruby Tuesday - Shelby Cobra

I just caught this gorgeous machine in traffic going down Riverside.  With a 427 cubic inch Ford engine and side pipes it was probably built around 1966 and appears to be in pristine condition.  The driver had a satisfied look on his face as well he should.  There are not a lot of these around.  Um um, beautiful!  Look HERE.

Macro Monday - Wheel Bug

The Wheel Bug is one of several true bugs commonly called assassin bugs.  This somewhat scarey looking bug is a beneficial insect that lives on caterpillers, Japanese beetles, and other insects generally considered to be pests.  The name comes from the curved pronotal shell which looks like a cogged wheel.  More about it HERE.  There is a whole world of interesting creatures living in our gardens if we only stop to look closely.

Winner's Circle is a semi-double low climber.  This is currently still in a pot but I plan to move it to the back fence before spring.

The Gulf Fritillary is distinguished by the vivid silver markings on the under wings.  From above it looks similar to the Variegated  Fritillary posted earlier.

Wordless Wednesday - Collar of Shame

Poor Smokey.  He had some minor surgery and has to wear a plastic cone to keep him away from the stitches.  It is a blasted nuisance but he wears it with as much dignity as he can muster.  We can remove it in another week when the stitches come out.

A Ruby Throated Hummingbird for Ruby Tuesday. Perfect except that this is a female and only the male has the bright red throat.  The females are more modest perhaps.  She is a beautiful little bird in any case.
