Black & White Reflections - Riverwalk in the Rain

For the past two years Tulsa has suffered serious drought conditions.  We passed through spring like it was a weekend event then on to hot and dry all summer.  This year we have a rainfall that puts us just above the historical average and are forecast unseasonable cold rainy weather well into the month of May..  We like having the rain but are hoping  not to freeze the peach crop.  The weather here is seldom boring.

Thursday Challenge - Transportation

For transportation in grand style you might be interested in a 1936 Mercedes Marlene.  I didn't need to ask the price to know that I couldn't afford it.  Actually, it is a kit car rather than a genuine antique so it might not be all that expensive. I still didn't need to ask.

Wednesday Doors - KOTV Channel 6

Here is the new home of Tulsa's oldest television station, KOTV Channel 6.  KOTV first began broadcasting to a Tulsa audience of 3000 TV receivers in October, 1949.  The new facility is across the street north of the Guthrie Green.

The new state of the art studios opened January 19, 2013 and will broadcast to a viewing audience of over one million.  KOTV covers northeastern Oklahoma (Green Country), southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, and northwestern Arkansas.

Wednesday Doors - Wallace Engineering

This building at 200 East Brady has housed a number of businesses over the years as evidenced by the signage.  Now it is the home of Wallace Engineering.  I like that they didn't erase the history.

Ruby Tuesday - Pontiac Solstice

Turning the corner of Greenwood and Archer is a bright red Pontiac Solstice GXP.  It is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 140 mph.  I will take their word for it.  It is a beautiful little car.

Monday Macro - Periwinkle

There is a bed of periwinkle that grows wild around the northeast corner of my house.  It is one of the earliest bloomers in the spring and the leaves stay green over the winter.  I am an admirer of anything that can survive our hot dry summers, especially if it blooms.

Weekend Reflections - New Driller Stadium

The Tulsa Driller baseball field is reflected in the entrance to the Perimeter Technology Building.  This is one of a number of old downtown buildings which have been remodeled and repurposed in the city center.

ONEOK Field is located in the historic Greenwood District of downtown Tulsa. The art deco style architecture of the ballpark pays tribute to Tulsa's professional baseball past, the Greenwood District and the City of Tulsa. Prior to this new stadium the Drillers played at the Tulsa county fairground.  The Drillers played their first game in the new ballpark on Thursday, April 8, 2010. The ONEOK foundation contributed 5 million dollars toward the construction and earned naming rights for the next 20 years. ONEOK is an energy company supplying natural gas to the Tulsa area.

Skywatch Friday - Guthrie Green

The Guthrie Green is a new public space covering a block just south of the new studios of KOTV Channel 6.  The green contains a bandstand for live music and a fountain for kids to play in.  The landscaping is newly planted and will look better every year.  The gently sloping grass lawn provides seating for a free movie when weather permits.  Downtown Tulsa is coming alive.

Ruby Tuesday - 2013 VW Golf

This young man was checking out a 2013 Volkswagen Golf at the recent Tulsa Auto Show.  He wanted to sit behind the wheel but his big brother beat him to it.  This seems to be a male prerogative as I saw very few girls making such inspections.  Maybe it has something to do with the male hunter-gatherer instinct.  Maybe girls are just smarter.

Macro Monday - Bee on Japonica

Spring has come to Tulsa.  There is a row of Japanese Quince on the east side of my house, "Japonica".  They are very pretty and the bees love them.
