The Heart of Tulsa


Looking North from 5th Street on Boston Ave, downtown Tulsa to the BOK Tower. The resemblance to the World Trade Center Towers is not accidental. It was designed by the same architects and was built in the same way in 1975 when it was the center for The Williams Company. The lobby has marble walls and wall hangings which also have a similarity to the World Trade Center. At 203 m (667 ft) in height, the 52-story tower is the tallest building in Oklahoma and any of the surrounding states of Missouri, Arkansas, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

My mom used to work at the Tower when I was younger. I remember going to Take Your Daughter to Work Day and seeing how beautiful the inside is.

Waooh, Tulsa is really a big town !! In my town, we haven't building like that ! the most tall tower we have is our cathedrale !
but it is also the heart of our town!

Is downtown busy and popular, is it more like a business district (i.e. empty at night)?

Zhu - There is beginning to be a growing entertainment district in the older part of dowtown. See the post on McNellie's.

Julie - It does look deserted doesn't it? I think there was some work being done on the side streets. Plus it was about 2:00 PM and people who work downtown were, like, working. (:-)
