If my memory serves me, they don't smell particularly pleasant, but they cheer up an autumnal day.

Marigolds have a sharp odor which is not unpleasant but repels insects. I used to plant marigolds in my vegetable garden to keep the bugs out.
Kisses.
So pretty!
I've used marigolds for the very same purpose, and they often work better commercial repellant. I've always thought the smell is so worth the gorgeous hues!
I am entertained by your French, too!
