Here is a Crepe Myrtle strong, tall, and in full bloom. There was a bad rumor spread around that Myrtles ought to be severely pruned back every year to prevent them from becoming tall and ungainly. Great looking tree, and you're right, the only pruning necessary is to trim the suckers and the lower branches to get the tree that you really want.
