Ruby Tuesday - 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible

OK, this is my last post from the Tulsa Exotic Auto Show.   Here is a gorgeous 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air red and white convertible, complete with 2 speed Powerglide and an engine of 4344 cm3 / 265.1 cui displacement with advertised power 112 kW / 150 hp / 152 PS ( SAE gross ) / 4400 and 329 Nm / 243 lb-ft / 2200 of torque

When I was a freshman in high school my mother bought a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air  2 door hardtop, ivory over turquoise.  My interest in household chores and lawn maintenance rose sharply when these activities became tightly coupled with possession of the car keys.  The hardtop was not quite as heart stopping as the convertible, but it was really a sweet ride.  Note that this beauty has been equipped with the rarely seen optional right hand drive.

Macro Monday - Spring Lilacs

Here it is still in the month of March and my lilacs are blooming. The bush is just behind the deck and it smells wonderful. Sue cut some and put them in front of our bedroom window. It's hard to beat lilacs in the spring.

SOOC - BOK Event Center

Tulsa is proud of the new BOK Event Center designed by César Pelli and opened in 2008.  The Bank of Oklahoma bought the naming rights for $11 million.  Read all about it in Wikipedia.

Weekend Reflections - Wolfgang Puck Bistro

The North  and East sides of the restaurant are glass and there are also outside tables on the east which gives the whole place a bright open feeling.  We are looking east along the north wall.  Across the street to the north is the Mecca Coffee Company.  Across the street to the east is BBD - Brookside By Day.

On the south side is a long bar and a view of the open kitchen.  The atmosphere is of a clean modern space at the same time simple and very attractive.

Sue and I live in the part of Tulsa known as Brookside.  The economic center of Brookside is Peoria Avenue from 31st Street to 51st Street.  Here are located a great number of restaurants and clubs serving an amazing variety of food, beverage and entertainment.  There is so much going on in this neighborhood that it even has its own Brookside Website.

One of the newer establishments is a Wolfgang Puck Bistro.  Mr. Puck's first restaurant was and is Spago on California's Sunset Strip.  Now there are about 2 dozen Puck restaurants scattered around the US.  Each one is distinct and designed to cater to its locality.  Tulsa's has quickly become a very popular dining spot.  Every time we go by there it looks packed, both for lunch and for dinner.  We really wanted to try it so we dropped in about 2:30 Friday afternoon and found it nearly empty.  Sue ordered the Pacific Fish and Chips and I had the Chicken Pot Pie.  Both were very nice.

Skywatch Friday - Spring Rain

Tulsa has had over 6 inches of rain in the last week.  It has been one of those slow steady soakers that are very welcome after an unseasonably dry year.

Wordless Wednesday - Oaks Doors

Last week Sue and I took a little drive just southwest of Page Belcher Golf Course.  She said there were some really nice homes over in that area so we checked it out. Sure enough she was right (she usually is).  The term "McMansions" is sometimes used to describe a big fancy house built on a tiny lot within spitting distance of its neighbors.  The houses here are what I would have to describe as "real mansions" laid out spaciously on large 1 acre lots.   I don't know if the neighborhood has an official name or not, but all the streets are named Oaks something-or-other so I will just refer to it as Oaks.  It is home to a number of beautiful houses with tasteful landscaping.  It has lots of pretty doors.

Ruby Tuesday - 1957 Chevrolet Nomad

Another beauty from last month's Tulsa Exotic Automobile Show.  This is a 2 door 1957 Chevrolet Nomad.  The Nomad was an upscale version of the Chevrolet station wagon and was produced from 1955 through 1961.  Wikapedia has a nice article on the Chevy Nomad.

Macro Monday - Little Miss Wren

After church today Sue and I drove over to Wagoner to visit with our youngest grand baby little Miss Wren Miller.  She was a year old on February 1 and gets sweeter by the day.  Of course I'm not a bit partial. She has her daddy Luke wrapped snugly around her finger.  Fatherhood becomes him.

SOOC Sunday - Gavin is Five!

Mike and Amber's boy Gavin had a big 5th birthday celebration Saturday at Whiteside Park.  Lots of Grandparents and cousins were there to help with the toys and to scarf down cake.  The big hit was a Rock Star outfit - toy guitar and microphone on a stand.  Gavin knew what to do with it.  He gave us a rousing performance of a song of his own invention, intelligible only to Gavin.  Then all the cousins took their turn.  A good time was had by all.

Wordless Wednesday - Midtown Doors

Today was another beautiful spring like day in Tulsa so I collected some midtown doors.  The area from 15th on the north to 21st Street on the south, and from Peoria on the east to Riverside on the west is full of wonderful old homes.  Close to downtown, these were built for the well-to-do of the oil days.  You can have your modern McMansions, these are the real thing.

Macro Monday - 1922 Rolls Royce

For several weeks now I have been sharing pictures from the Tulsa Exotic Car Show.  No car show would be complete without a beautifully restored Rolls Royce  This one is a 1922 Rolls Royce Springfield Ghost.

The name Ghost was a reference to its ghost-like quietness.  From 1921 to 1926 this model was assembled in Springfield, Massachusetts.

This car looks to be restored to factory condition except for modern wheels and tires.  It is a magnificent automobile.

Black & White Reflections - Lots of "BLING"

Many of the cars at the Tulsa Exotic show have lots of chrome.  This one went one step farther and used a chrome panel over the fire wall to serve as a mirror to visually double the lavish use of chrome throughout the engine compartment.

Skywatch Friday - Sky over Crystal Bridges

This is a view of the Crystal Bridges Museum from the south.  Hard surface trails lead down both sides of the little creek that runs through the site.  Work is still in progress and should be ready in time for springtime.  I want to come back in a month or so to see the Redbud and Dogwood trees, and again in the fall when the foliage is colorful.  This will be lovely at all seasons.  Make plans to visit this treasure in Bentonville Arkansas and you will not be disappointed.
