Theme Thursday - The Color Brown: Waxaklahun

Stone monument celebrating Waxaklahun Ubah K'awil, 13th ruler of Maya city of Copan, circa 695 CE.  From the Ancient Americas exhibit, Field Museum, Chicago.  The exhibit fascinated me because I had no idea that the early civilizations of North and South America were so complex and advanced.  Now I plan to read more about these early civilizations.  If you are interested in an example see HERE.

The ancient civilisations were amazing - look at all that intricate carving with not even a chisel (as we know it) on hand.

What gorgeous gorgeous carving! And yes, there is a magnificent rich culture there to learn about.

Great ancient art.

Me thinks that statue qualifies as 'busy'. But not necessarily 'brown' but only if one thinks of 'brown' as a depressed state of mind. Then I can see it working. I was going to link up with TT but all I had was essentially brown images and nothing to say that would relate them to a state of being brown. Drats.

So exotic for me. I am always suprised, how beautiful things had the old civilizations (f.e. Maya).

I love Mayan art and culture, so this was a real treat. It will be fun to find out from your research and what other treasures you can uncover.

We went to Honduras a couple of times, and to Copan to visit the ruins of the ancien Maya civilization. Such a fascinating culture! Tikal in Guatemala is a must for old temples, it's lost in the jungle...
