Today President Obama received the Nobel Prize for Peace in Oslo, Norway. In his blog our friend Renny asked his readers for their reaction. Here is my response.
As an American I am proud that this prestigious award was given to our president. It was awarded based on the man’s potential and not on his accomplishments. It is like providing a very gifted young violinist with an exceptional violin. The hope is that the student will fulfill his promise and rise to the caliber of the instrument. If the committee has chosen well, the world is the beneficiary.

Like I said in my post, it's of course pro et contra on this issue. The reason why I support this award, is that it gives hope and Obama's proves a global view and insight. That's what showed in his speech too, which was well received both in Norway and the rest of the world.
As you know, I am married to an American who says: "I have been able to be proud to be a part of both countries at once!"
Btw: Thanks for plugging me :-)
I think the award was aspirational. The committee wanted to recognize the hope they have in the man. I know that some are upset because he has not accomplished anything in their eyes. I just say that he didn't give himself the award. What was he supposed to do? Turn it down?
I am the huge fan of President Obama...and the Noble peace prize on the right handed..
Admirable sentiments that you write here, Bill.
