Interesting. My Dad up on Idaho has the same effect on his metal roof except the snow could be a foot deep and overhangs his garage door opening. He keeps a broom handle to go out regularly and cut the overhang off.
I love the look of snow doing this, but it is dangerous.
Have you ever heard of what's called snow guards? They keep the snow up on the roof so it doesn't do this and rip off your gutters, or smash your car, or even worse land on someone and hurt them.
