The male Cardinal is bright red all over. The female is more a rust color.
This time of year the songbirds are hungry. Putting out a seed feeder is a big help and they will reward you by flocking to the feeder and doing a dance for you. I prefer black sunflower seer, safflower seed, and thistle for the finches. Less desirable birds like starlings, grackles, and sparrows will sometimes push others away from the feeder but hey, they are hungry too.

Hi:
Fantastic shot! I like this bird. I prefer your blog now is better.
Bye,
Serge
Yet again, another bird giving you the evil Bill. Remember Hitchcock's famous (?infamous) film?
For some reason I'm coming up as Leedslass - not a clue why, but just so's you know I'm both "Sharon's mum and Leedslass".
What a bright clear beautiful shot Bill. I love it.
Quel magnifique oiseau !
Bisous.
Great shot but he caught you taking his picture. :)
Outstanding Cardinal capture. Extremely well done. The Robins are beginning to show up in our back yard. Yep. spring can't be too far away.
There is a pair of red tail hawks setting up housekeeping about 50 yards from the house. That should keep the squirrels out of the feeders and ducking for cover. I just hope I get an opportunity to photograph the hawks.
