3 - 2 - 1 - Blast Off !

Today is the day that the kids get to fire the rockets they have been working on. Their father Jeff drove down from Missouri on his day off and we went to watch the fun.

Lots of eager young rocket scientists.

Willy and Molly slip their rockets over the stabilizing rods.

Ready on the firing line! 3 - 2 - 1 -

- BLASTOFF ! !

The first stage sends it high in the air, then another pop and the parachute is deployed.

And they run down range to retrieve their rocket for another firing. They are having a great time this week.

That looked like a lot of fun. We're getting so 'elf and safety (health and safety) conscious over here that I'm not at all sure our children would have been allowed to do something like that. The only way children can grow and learn is by having a little bit of "danger" in their lives. Young ones over here rarely "play out" as we did because of strong parental fear of the unknown. So sad. I still have some wonderful scars on my knees from falling off my bike some sixty-odd years ago and every scar reminds me of a story!

Anne - What you say is true unfortunately. We were outside getting dirty while today's kids are inside playing video games. This camp is very well done however. Safety is emphasized and everything is well supervised. Thay are learning a lot and having a good time. You can't beat it.

I agree with Anne: although safety is important, being able to experience as a kid is great!

And looks like they had a great time at the camp! I would have loved building rockets as a kid I think...

Child, I too, played a lot and I went outside at night in a state of extreme dirt! my children play outside less, we live in the countryside and they can find their friends and run around the park. They also tend to stay home and play video games. that is why I like to take them to walk and discover lots of things also, like Paris recently.

Bill: the card and the photo are arrived, thank you!

Looks like to kids had a great time. If only schools in Blighty would allow that, sigh. It seems we're much more health and safety conscious (make that stupidly obsessed with) over here. As Anne says: kids aren't allowed to play out much. 25yrs ago I wasn't allowed out of the garden; 15yrs ago I wasn't really allowed out of the street much apart from to go to school!

I say let kids be kids and there'll be whole lot less trouble.
