Ruby Tuesday - Buddhist Temple

In 2003 Sue and I visited her son Paul and his wife Beth in Sasebo Japan when Paul was stationed there with the Navy.  Beth made a great tour guide and took us to a lot of interesting places.  We did not go inside this temple but the grounds were beautifully manicured.

Baptism of Paulina Lashmet

Sue and I drove up to Chicago this week to attend the baptism of her youngest granddaughter Paulina.  Mark and Elane have 5 little girls, Fiona, Moira, Callista, Niamh, and now Paulina.

Thursday Challenge: Aircraft - Biplane

Boeing/Stearman PT-17 "Kaydet", also known as a Stearman Model 75 on display at the Tulsa Air National Guard during a special Family Day held on September 11, 2010. I attended as a guest of my son Master Sergeant David Miller.

The Stearman (Boeing) Model 75 is a biplane, of which at least 9,783 were built in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s as a military trainer aircraft. Stearman Aircraft became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934. It served as a primary trainer for the USAAF, a basic trainer for the USN (as the NS & N2S), and with the RCAF as the Kaydet throughout World War II. After the conflict was over, thousands of surplus aircraft were sold on the civil market. In the immediate post-war years they became popular as crop dusters and as sports planes.

Ruby Tuesday - Antique Jukebox

Sue and I went to the Jazz Depot Sunday evening to hear a tribute to Dave Brubeck the iconic jazz pianist who died in December at the age of 91.  While wandering around during the intermission I found the perfect post for Ruby Tuesday in the form of a 1954 AMI Sonoramic Sound Jukebox.  It plays 45 rpm records and is a gift from the children of Bob Wilson.

While we were enjoying our cabin over on Lake Greenleaf last week, Susan stepped out on the deck and snapped a photograph of the moon rising through the mist over the water.  I think she did a great job.

Skywatch Friday - KJRH-TV Channel 2

Channel 2 has it's offices and transmitter on Peoria in the center of the Brookside area of Tulsa.  They have a "Skycam" on top of their tower that keeps an eye on the changing weather.  Since we live in the area it is always interesting to see the view from atop their tower.  Built in 1954 the station was considered very modern when it was built in 1954.  For a brief history look HERE.

Retreat to Lake Greenleaf

Sue and I rented a cabin on Lake Greenleaf near Muskogee and relaxed between Christmas and New Year.  We built a fire in the fireplace, took walks and naps and enjoyed ourselves.  It snowed a little, just enough to make us appreciate the fireplace.

Thursday Challenge: Light - Raising Hope

The first baby to be baptized at our church was named Hope.  When our priest raised her up to introduce her to the congregation she was back lit by the sanctuary window.  I made an enlargement of this picture and our priest put it near the entrance to the sanctuary with the caption, "Raising Up Hope."  It seemed very suitable for a young and growing congregation.

Thursday Challenge - Good

I spent a year in Korea when I was in the Army and fell in love with Korean food.  Lucky for me Tulsa has 2 nice Korean restaurants.  This is Bi-bim-bap, a selection of shredded meat and vegetables over rice served sizzling in a iron hot pot.  Add a little soy and hot sauce, stir it all together and serve it with an array of traditional side dishes.  This is Gooood!

We had a fish dinner at Fish Daddies that was so good I had to get up close and take its picture.  This is pan fried cod with a nice cheesy white sauce, hot beans on one side and mixed slaw on the other.  Mmm-mm-good.

Macro Monday - Wren & Gus

Here is my granddaughter Wren and her new best friend Gus the pitbull pup.  Luke, Cara, and Wren came over to church with us and brought Gus who we is new to the family.  He is a mellow little guy. Wren is a little girl and Gus is a little pup so this should qualify as a macro, sort of.  I couldn't resist.
