Wordless Wednesday - Tulsa Baseball

We arrived early.  The stands were packed after the game started.

Minor league baseball is back in season so we went to see the Tulsa Drillers play the Arkansas Naturals on Saturday night.  Our beautiful new ballpark is on the northeast of the downtown area and provides a spectacular view of the Tulsa skyline from the grand stands.  Of course I wore my Driller ball cap and enjoyed a nice hamburger and cold Pepsi.

Macro Monday - Pirate Tattoo

On Saturday before Easter we had a party for the children at our church.  There was an Easter Egg hunt of course, and some games and prizes.  Our daughter Jennifer did face painting  and I was in charge of the stick on tattoos.  The girls generally choose something pretty and we had flowers, butterflies and such things for them.  The boys wanted something a bit darker so we offered pirates, skulls, dragons and such for them.  Of course I had to apply one to the back of my hand as a sample for them and a practice for myself.  I choose this lovely Pirate Octopus to decorate the back of my hand.  The interesting thing about these tattoos is that they do not wash off as expected.  They are printed on a very thin plastic film that slips off a paper backing when wet and applied to the skin.  I am posting this on Monday morning and mine is still firmly affixed.  I will try some mineral oil or some of Sue's fingernail polish remover.  The kids loved them.

Mystery House

I drove by this little house just northwest of downtown Tulsa a few days sgo, and wondered what most people would.  Does anyone live there?  From the generally run down look of the place I would guess that it was unoccupied.  But there is a mail holder on the front gate with an envelope inside, and a cat sleeping on the front porch.  It's a mystery.

Thursday Challenge - Landscape

When we traced Route 66 from Tulsa to Santa Fe  in October of 2009, we stopped to see the Pecos National Historical Park in Pecos, New Mexico. The main attraction is the ruins of a Pueblo in a village and Mission.

Macro Monday - Pink Magnolia

A trip to Southwood Nursery is always a photo-op.  Here is a pink Magnolia, sometimes called a Tulip Tree.  The beautiful pink and white blooms are a brilliant addition to our colorful spring landscape.

It is very seldom that I post a photo that is not my own, but this one has to be an exception.  This is from my friend Martin Wiltshire and is of him and his brother on Piha Beach in New Zealand.  The colors and reflections are just amazing.  Thanks Martin.

Choir of Saint Thomas Church

Tuesday evening Susan and I went out to a nice dinner then to a performance by the Choir of Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, New York City, New York. It is a combined choir of men and boys. The performance was held at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Tulsa. the voices and harmony were amazing. they sold recordings after the performance and we bought several. I love this kind of music and they were flawless. The boys are part of a music school and live at the church in New York City. It must be an exciting experience for them. They did a selection of music from 15th century polyphony to 20th century choral music.and all sing like angels.

During the performance they stood very straight and looked very serious. Clearly they were focused on doing everything perfectly. But when they stepped into the choir seats to listen while their organist played a complicated piece on the pipe organ they were looking up at the pipes like ordinary (but well-behaved) boys. After the concert they changed their clothes and came to the reception for punch and cookies. Then they talked and laughed with each other like any other group of 8 to 14 year old boys. I was really impressed by their talent, skill and discipline. Their web site is http://www.saintthomaschurch.org/ We were lucky to have them come to Tulsa.
