The River is Rising

Smokey and I decided to check the level of water in the Arkansas River which divides Tulsa east and west. The 21st Street bridge just up the road almost disappears in the rain.

I hobbled around in the rain taking pictures while Smokey wisely stayed in the car. I covered my camera with a bandanna until I snapped the photo to keep my new camera dry.

We had the place to ourselves. I guess most people had the good sense to stay out of the rain. Click to enlarge panorama of the river from South to North.

Back in February I posted an interesting photo of water flowing over the low water dam just North of the pedestrian bridge on the Arkansas River. After more than a week of heavy rain the water level is much higher. Here is a sort of before and after of the low water dam.

That poor little duck's feet must be paddling madly in order not to go over the weir!

You really have had rain this week - my heart bleeds as we have basked in sunshine (which makes a change).

Bonjour.
En effet, je me souviens de la photo de février !
Mais là après le déluge des derniers jours, la rivière est bien pleine.
Toujours pas la pêche...
Bisous.

Look like Canada in the spring when all the ice melts!

Is it like that every year? The water level looks really high to me!

Zhu - It is not unusual for the river to fill up after a week of rain, but it takes a lot more to push the river over the banks. I live a block away from the river but my next door neighbor who has lived here for over 50 years tells me that we have never flooded.
