Asbury Methodist Church

Sue and I are out and about today doing some Christmas shopping. We passed Asbury and marveled at it's size. This is their new building, and the smaller structure on the left is the "chapel". This photo does not show how enormous this place is.

I had to Google Asbury to learn about it (reading your blog is improving my computer skills no end). What an enormous chapel and, from the picture, a beautiful building. Living in England with our huge cathedrals I am used to big churches of course.

I'm a small-town girl and tend to think of England as the only place to have these types of building!
My apologies World. I live about 30 miles from York with its Minster. Somewhere Sharon and I will probably visit as she loves the city and its antiquated, very narrow streets and, of course, the Minster itself.

I cannot believe how blue your sky is. Ours seems to be a permanent shade of grey!!!!!!

The thing that makes Asbury interesting to me is that it is very new, constructed within the past 5 years. We watched its progress when we were in that part of town. It is a very modern construction, all steel framed with the brick facing added last to made it look traditional. This is not the stone cathedral in Minster or Winchester. Inside it is one vast amphitheater that holds over 5,000 people. I can't imagine a church with that many members. We call it a megachurch. How does one feel a part of something so large? I am more comfortable with a group small enough that I have a chance to know everyone's name. I met Susan at a small church.

Le temps semble magnifique dans l'Oklahoma et la place bien vide de monde !
