Philbrook

Tulsa Chamber Music presented a recital by the 2008 Irving M. Klein International String Competition winner, violinist Tessa Lark. She was accompanied by pianist Amy Jiaqi Yang. The recital was in Philbrook's Wilson Hall. They were amazing. This all made a wonderful afternoon. The program was:

Philbrook

On exhibit is a fine collection of English salon paintings all purchased at great expense by Thomas Holloway between 1880 and 1882. Holloway made his fortune selling patent medicines. These are large paintings revealing a perspective on life in Victorian England. We bought the catalog for the exhibit and plan to return again after we have read enough about the works to appreciate them better.

After church we went to see a new exhibit at the Philbrook Art Museum: the Royal Holloway Collection, London; Paintings from the Reign of Victoria. We began with a very nice brunch in their restaurant.

Korean Garden

I was tired of making sandwiches for lunch so I decided to treat myself to my favorite Korean restaurant. This is Ohsam Bulgogi, marianated calimari and pork served sizzling hot. Delicious!

Frank Lloyd Wright's "Westhope"

A view from the front (looking South). The estate includes a guesthouse, workshop, and a nice garden area with pool in the back. I would love to see the interior but I do not know who is living there now.

Located at 3704 S. Birmingham Avenue, this is one of only 3 Oklahoma buildings created by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This 10,000 square foot home was built for his cousin Richard Lloyd Jones in 1929 when Jones was editor and publisher of the Tulsa Tribune. This view looks West towards the long axis of the house. The trees surrounding the house make it difficult to get a photograph which does justice to the interesting design. For some vintage photos see HERE , or current exterior photos see HERE . My friend Micky is the charming server. Her mother and father are the owners and cooks. This excellent restaurant has authentic Korean cuisine. Located on East 41st Street at 129th East Avenue, it is one of my favorite Tulsa restaurants.
