We enjoyed the Transportation section of the Smithsonian Museum of American History. They had some beautiful old trains on display. I liked this model of a 1940's Pullman train. there were cutaways of the mail car, kitchen, dining car and others.

What an interesting post and brought back memories of when, in the olden days, we used to go to Cornwall for holidays. In those days, to cut the journey, we put our car on the railway at Sheffield then disembarked at Newquay only about an hour from our final destination. Wonderful, relaxed way to embark on a long journey:-)
