Ruby Tuesday - House Finch

The little guy at my feeder in this picture is a House Finch.  He looks like a sparrow who has been shot on the head with red spray paint.

With all the snow and cold weather we have been having, our bird feeders have been busy with hungry birds.  We put out mostly sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, and black thistle, avoiding the millet that comprises the bulk of many cheap mixes.  We are apt to see a Goldfinch, House Finch, Towhee, Nuthatch, Titmouse, Cardinal, Blue Jay, and a variety of sparrows.  Some of our more persistent visitors are the squirrels who delight in defying our "squirrel-proof" bird feeders.

I've heard a lot of people commenting that these pesky squirrels have been stealing their bird feed, quite an ingenious bunch! Beautiful snap.

Love the house finch. We've had a multitude of feathered friends this winter as well. I keep a nut & berry mix in mine and the cardinals are loving it. Happy RT.

I've just realised the reason why so many bloggers whose blogs I used to visit regularly seem to have stopped posting - it's that when I moved from Pictures Just Pictures to Message in a Milk Bottle

http://messageinamilkbottle.blogspot.com/

I got half way through copying them onto the new list of blogs I follow . . . thought I'd finished . . . and stopped. (Rather a shortage of posts in the latter part of the alphabet in consequence!)

Simultaneously, I lost track of who I'd let know about the move and who I hadn't. Apologies!

Your bird has a very quizzical expression.

She seems to be saying "uh, excuse me. I'm trying to eat here..." LOL Great shot.

I love this little bird, we were so pleased that they built a nest and raised a family in our hanging plant last year. Hope they come back this year.

What a "cute little guy". It does keep one busy filling those feeders--they go through the seed quickly. I have yet to find a "squirrel proof" feeder!!!!

I've seen these on the feeder. I planned on asking you because I knew you would know!
