Lake Oologah

Behind the dam looking East. Oologah is named for the nearby town of Oologah which was the birthplace of Oklahoma favorite son Will Rogers. The little farm house where he was born is nearby and available for a tour on weekends.

After church we loaded Smokey up and drove northeast of Tulsa to Lake Oologah, This is a view of the dam from the lake side.

Oologah was created by damming up the Verdigris River. Oklahoma has hundreds of man-made lakes and over 2,000 miles of shoreline, most of which is public property. This provides those of us who live here with many opportunities for swimming, boating, and fishing. Unlike some of the larger lakes, Oologah does not generate hydro-electrical power, but is primarily for flood control.
