Weekend Black & White - Haskell, Oklahoma

Haskell was established in 1904 on the Midland Valley Railroad. The population was 2,007 at the 2010 census, a gain of 13.7 percent from 1,765 at the 2000 census. Haskell was named for town site developer Charles N. Haskell, the first state governor of Oklahoma.  Haskell is about 40 miles southeast of Tulsa.

Thursday Challenge: Growth - Birdhouse Gourds

If you have been following this blog for a long time you may remember my great gourd adventure of 2004.  I decided to plant a few birdhouse gourds on the back fence.  I had planted pole beans back there and thought a few ornamental gourds might be fun.  Before long the gourd vines had covered the entire fence, climbed up a utility pole in the corner, and grew down the lines into the next yard.  Don't plant birdhouse gourds unless you are serious about having lots of gourds.  Yes I know I could have cut them back but where's the fun in that?

Here is another look at my 3 for $10.00 miniature roses.  I put them all in one pot so I have a one-pot rose garden.  The interesting thing about miniature roses is that while they look delicate they are really tough little guys.

Just west of downtown Tulsa is an older part of town that was settled by working class folks in the early years when the city was growing rapidly.  These are modest homes many of them duplexes, some are well maintained, some not so much.

Why "Bite Me Bar"?  I dunno, that was the sign on the door.

Skywatch Friday - Lake Yahola

Lake Yahola is a reservoir in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This city-owned, 2-billion-US-gallon (7,600,000 m3), concrete-lined lake is an integral part of the Tulsa water supply, and receives water by pipeline from Lake Spavinaw. It is located in Mohawk Park, adjacent to the Mohawk Water Treatment Plant. The reservoir was completed in 1924. The treatment plant went into service in 1929. (Wikipedia)
